Psychotherapy

Welcome

Good to have you here.

Welcome to my private practice for psychotherapy and coaching in Cologne's Agnesviertel. Take your time to look around.

Sometimes life hits us like an unexpected wave: we are overwhelmed by emotions, thoughts or situations, feel disoriented or exhausted – and don't know how to resurface. In moments like these, trusted guidance can help you understand the currents, find your footing and develop new perspectives.

My practice is a protected space where you are welcome to arrive just as you are. Here we meet at eye level: with time, confidentiality and genuine interest in you and your story. Together we explore what you need right now – so that you can resurface and find your own rhythm again.

About me & my approach

Meeting at eye level.

Elif Kıdeyş, M.Sc. – Psychological Psychotherapist
Elif Kıdeyş, M.Sc. – Psychological Psychotherapist

Understanding the origin

Our work begins with a thorough understanding of your current difficulties and symptoms. Together we explore how they developed and which factors keep them going today. Challenges often lie hidden in unconscious patterns of thought and behaviour – making these visible is a key step.

My approach

For me, therapy is a meeting at eye level, shaped by humanity, respect and humour. Together we develop realistic goals and individual paths that suit you and help you navigate steadily again – even through stormy phases of life.

My stance

For me, therapy means walking the path together – not observing from the outside. We develop new perspectives together, step by step. I am transparent: I explain what I do and why, so that you always know what we are working on. And I meet you in an approachable way – as a person, not as a distant expert.

Evidence-based and personal

I work with evidence-based methods that I adapt flexibly to your needs. Theory and technique are tools – the heart of it all remains the human encounter.

As Carl Gustav Jung said:

Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul.

Reaching out for support often takes a lot of strength – and it is completely understandable if the first step feels hard. The fact that you are considering it already shows courage. It matters to me that the person is at the centre – not a diagnosis and not a technique. Before it is about methods, therapy is above all one thing: a human encounter.

Areas of focus

Methods & focus.

Individual therapy for adults – at the practice in the Agnesviertel or online. Therapy is available in German, English and Dutch.

Methods & services

  • Behavioural therapy

A well-researched approach that starts with your current difficulties: we look at thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour, understand how they came about and develop new, helpful ways together.

  • EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing – a recognised method for processing distressing and traumatic memories within a safe therapeutic setting.

  • ADHD assessment

A careful assessment if ADHD is suspected in adulthood. We discuss the results in detail and consider together which next steps make sense for you.

  • Online therapy

I offer therapy via video as a matter of course – as an equal alternative to sessions at the practice, whichever suits you better: flexible, confidential and independent of location.

  • Coaching

For people without a mental illness who would like clarity during a phase of change – for example career decisions, life transitions, stress or questions of personal growth. Together we sharpen your goals, strengthen your resources and work out concrete next steps.

  • Family constellations

In a group setting I offer systemic constellation work. Other participants act as representatives for members of your family or other important people and are placed in the room. This makes relationships, unspoken dynamics and old entanglements visible and tangible – and new perspectives and solutions can emerge that often remain hidden in conversation alone.

Areas of focus

  • Depression & exhaustion

When strength, drive and joy are missing – including stress, burnout or bullying.

  • Anxiety & compulsions

Panic, phobias, constant worry or thoughts and actions that keep intruding.

  • Trauma

Distressing experiences, violence and abuse – processed with care, also using EMDR.

  • ADHD

Assessment and treatment in adulthood – from concentration to self-organisation.

  • Grief & life crises

Loss, upheaval and phases of disorientation.

  • Eating disorders

When food, weight or body image dominate everyday life.

  • Addiction

When substances or behaviours take up too much space.

  • Personality & relationships

Recurring patterns in how you experience yourself and others, including personality disorders.

  • Sexuality

Questions, uncertainties and difficulties around sexuality.

  • Life counselling

For general psychological strain and questions of personal development.

  • Culturally sensitive psychotherapy

A space where cultural background, experiences of migration and life between different worlds are understood and valued – also in English or Dutch.

  • Queer- & trans-sensitive therapy

An open, affirming space for queer, trans* and non-binary people – with an understanding of their particular realities of life.

Fees

Fees & reimbursement.

Questions about payment shouldn't hold you back from taking the first step. I'm happy to clarify everything important with you in advance – and to help you with the paperwork for your insurer.

  • Private health insurance & Beihilfe

Costs are usually covered by your private health insurer or the Beihilfe office. How many sessions are reimbursed and whether an application is needed in advance depends on your plan. Fees follow the German fee schedule for psychological psychotherapists (GOP) – you submit the invoice to your insurer or Beihilfe office. I'm happy to help with applications and reports.

  • Self-paying clients

You can also pay for treatment yourself, regardless of how you are insured. Fees also follow the GOP. In that case no information is passed on to an insurer.

  • Statutory health insurance

Even if you have statutory health insurance, your insurer may cover the costs under certain conditions – through the so-called reimbursement procedure (Kostenerstattungsverfahren). This is possible if you cannot find a place with a statutory-insurance therapist within a reasonable time. Once approved, you submit my invoice to your health insurer for reimbursement. I'll explain the steps and support you with the application.

Reimbursement procedure – how it works

  1. Consultation

You attend a psychotherapeutic consultation (Sprechstunde) at a practice approved by statutory insurance, where the need for treatment is confirmed.

  2. Document your search

You note which approved practices you contacted and which waiting times you were given.

  3. Apply

You apply to your health insurer for reimbursement of treatment at my practice. I'm happy to help with the paperwork.

  4. Start therapy

As soon as your insurer has approved, therapy can begin.

Whether costs are covered is decided by your health insurer on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently asked questions about the reimbursement procedure

What is the reimbursement procedure?

A way for statutory health insurers to cover the costs of psychotherapy in a private practice. It exists so that you don't have to wait an unreasonably long time for a therapy place.

When does it apply to me?

When psychotherapy is necessary and you cannot find a place with a statutory-insurance therapist within a reasonable time. Your insurer decides on a case-by-case basis whether the requirements are met.

Which documents do I need?

Usually the certificate from a psychotherapeutic consultation (Sprechstunde), a list of the approved practices you contacted with the waiting times you were given, and an informal application to your insurer. Some insurers also ask for a medical certificate. I'm happy to help with the paperwork.

How long does the insurer take to decide?

As a rule, your insurer has to decide within three weeks – or within five weeks if it obtains an expert opinion. Therapy itself begins once approval has been given.

Process

I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Enquiry

Send me an email, use the contact form or give me a call. A few sentences about your concern are enough.

  2. Reply

I will get back to you promptly with further information or a suggested appointment. In urgent cases, short-notice appointments are possible.

  3. First session

We get to know each other, talk about your current situation and find out whether working together feels right for you.

  4. The way forward

We develop realistic goals and a treatment plan that fits you and your life.

Frequently asked questions

Which languages is therapy offered in?

German, English or Dutch – whichever feels most comfortable for you.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes. As a psychotherapist I am bound by legal professional confidentiality. Information from therapy is never passed on to third parties without your explicit consent.
